9/16/2013 30 Day Challenge: Day 4

Getting better with economizing my space.  I'm going to try buying some new inks and use some of the new pen nibs I bought a few months ago.

I find myself getting a bit stuck in trying to create far back grounds.  Once I draw an interior, I find myself not allotting enough time into thinking about what's happening beyond windows.  I know how I would deal with these problems if I were painting, but pen and ink being so unforgiving...

Anyway, the journey continues!

9/14/2013 30 Day Inking Challenge!

I've decided to tackle a 30 day challenge!

My good friend and co-worker Vince has convinced me to do a 30 day challenge (He'll be posting a 30 day challenge of his own here). Our goals are a bit different, I'll be trying to draw and ink characters and include backgrounds or at the least characters interacting with their environments.  I'm a bit rusty on having characters blend into the space they occupy, so this should be a good exercise!  I'm going to try to make sure to practice onomatopoeias and effects.  If you're a fan of 30 day challenges, stay tuned!

9/12/2013 More Inking Studies

Now with the comic all finished up, I find myself free to do more of these inking studies.  I'm glad I get to do these, because I'm finding out a lot about inking just by experimenting with different tools again.  I've been married to the idea of using dip pens and brushes, but I find i get much more predictable and cleaner results from using felt tips and microns.  This allows me to think less about the tools and just concentrate on creating interesting forms, shapes and lines. 

More of these to come, hopefully.

I had some time before going to sleep tonight, so I thought I'd so some inking studies.  trying out new tools and being a bit more aggressive with my lines and blacks.

Had a chance to do a little bit of painting tonight!

It's been another long hiatus, but I promise it was worth the wait!  I've finished my comic, and I'm just trying to think of a way for me to show this thing to the world!  Just wait a little bit more, you guys!

Summer Girls 3.0

Here's my third installment of my annual Summer Girls themed paintings!

This painting took forever, but it was a BLAST painting this one.  A did a lot of experimenting with color on this one, and it was totally worth it.  A lot of the colors came out better than I had expected!

It's that time of the year again! Summer time is here, and it's time to do another Summer Girl themed painting!

Update on the comic:

I just got my pages scanned on Saturday.  I just need a little bit more time to do clean up and screen toning!  Wait just a little longer, people!

7/22/2013 Long Hiatus, and Swaaaaag

This has probably been the longest hiatus I've been on so far.  But good news!  I finally finished inking my comic!  All that's left is to get the pages scanned, and some screen toning on the computer.  Just a little longer guys!

I got some fun ideas for the near future, so stay tuned!  In the mean time, enjoy a painting I did for my friend!
